Kids in New York and across the country love play structures, and if you are lucky enough to have the space, you may have a play structure in your lawn. While backyard play structures can provide hours of fun for children, poorly constructed ones can be a safety hazard.
Backyard play structure recalled
A company called Backyard Play Systems that sells products under the brand names Yardline Play Systems and Gorilla Playsets has recently recalled thousands of its play structures. The models that have been recalled are:
- Turbo Racer
- Cloud Racer
- Captain’s Fort
- Fort Highlander
The play structures that are under recall are elevated wooden playhouses that feature slides, rock climbing walls, swings and look-out windows. One element of the structure design has been found to create a risk of entrapment for children.
Decorative gable on roof
The dangerous design on the playhouse features a decorative gable under the roof that creates a gap that is large enough for children to get trapped in. The dangerous element of the structure can be remedied, so the entire product does not need to be disposed of. So far, there have been no reported injuries to children involving the play structure.
Remedies offered by the company
If you own one of the recalled play structures, you are advised to stop using it until it can be repaired. Backyard Play Systems is sending free repair kits to customers that include all of the supplies you will need to make the repair yourself. You can also contact the company to arrange a time for a representative to come to your property and make the repair for you.
